Shopify product feed optimization checklist for 2026
Feed optimization isn't a one-time project. Platforms change requirements, seasons change creative, and your catalog grows. This checklist is what we recommend Shopify merchants review quarterly.
Titles that match search intent
Lead with what the product is, then the distinguishing attribute, then brand. Google rewards clarity; Meta rewards scroll-stopping specificity. Same SKU, two titles — that's normal.
Images that earn the click
- White or clean background for Shopping where appropriate
- No promotional text baked into the image file
- Lifestyle or model shots for Meta when they outperform pack shots
- Consistent aspect ratio across top sellers
Attributes Merchant Center actually checks
- GTIN / MPN / brand for eligible products
- Condition, availability, and accurate price
- Google product category where it helps classification
Keep sync honest
If a variant sells out in Shopify at 2pm, your feed should reflect that before your evening ad spend hits. Live feed URLs beat weekly CSV uploads for that reason alone.
Platform-specific overrides
Treat Google Shopping and Meta catalogs as siblings, not twins. Share data where it makes sense, but customize copy and images when each channel performs differently.
